Huntington Man Pleads Guilty in Jan. 6 Insurrection

A Huntington man pleaded guilty Thursday to federal charges resulting from the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection at the US Capitol.
Christopher W. Ortiz was arrested in Huntington Jan. 27, 2021 and was originally charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol Grounds. He pleaded guilty to parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.
When he is sentenced, he faces a penalty  of up to six months of imprisonment; a term of probation of not more than five  years, a fine of not more than $5,000. He Ortiz agreed to pay $500 restitution for a share of the damages to the Capitol.
More than 800 people have been charged in the attack on the US Capitol that grew out of attempts to block the certification of election results that led to the election of Joe Biden and the loss by Donald Trump.
