Huntington Mooring Fee Enforcement to Start Aug. 16

Boaters who moor their vessels in Huntington waters will have to cough up another $40 for a permit starting Aug.16.

The Huntington Harbormaster’s Office will start enforcement of the mooring permit after the Town Board approved the fee by a 3-2 vote at its June 18 meeting.

Opponents said the fee was unnecessary; Maritime director Dom Spada said the fee was needed because of the increased use of the harbor and costs of maintaining the waters safely, as well as a database of boaters using Huntington facilities

Boat owners should submit a mooring permit application by August 15, the town said. The application can be found on the Town website at: http://www.huntingtonny.gov/mooring-permits Permit applications may be submitted, with the proper paperwork and payment by check (or by credit card in the office), in person or by mail, to: Huntington Board of Trustees, Harbormaster’s Office, 53 North New York Avenue, Halesite, NY 11743. Documents may also be faxed to (631) 425-0621 or emailed to [email protected].

Unpermitted boats will be issued a $250 violation starting Aug. 16.

Nonresidents will continue to pay $200 as a mooring fee.

The Town is allowing commercial baymen who operate in Huntington’s waterways to have their mooring permit included with the issuance or renewal of their commercial license.
