Huntington Movie Series Boosts Food Bank Contributions

Residents who enjoyed the Town of Huntington’s free movie series this summer contributed more than 4,000 items to food banks, Councilman Mark Cuthbertson reported Thursday.

Because social distancing requirements would have restricted attendance at Crab Meadow Beach, Walt Whitman Shops opened its northeast parking lot to host four of the series movies, allowing more attendees than usual. Two other movies in the series were shown at Crab Meadow.

Cuthbertson thanked the mall, town workers and the food banks for working together to make the drive-in series work and for contributions to the food banks.

“We want to thank everyone who contributed and to urge anyone who can to contribute a non-perishable item,” Cuthbertson said, saying that he encouraged people to take donations at all events to contribute to the food banks.

Three organizations, Tri-CYA, Family Service League and Helping Hand Rescue Mission, collected the donations for distribution to other organizations.

If you are in need of food, or you want to contribute to those who need help, please see the HuntingtonNow.com calendar, which lists numerous events and opportunities.
