Huntington Native Is the One-Man Band Behind Bauer’s Brew

Bauer’s Brew, a Long Island coffee company run by Huntington native Mike Bauer, is celebrating its one-year anniversary this month.

As a successful entrepreneur and coffee enthusiast, Bauer travels from Long Island to Queens to formulate cold brew and coffee grounds.

Originally only making cold brew for friends and family as a hobby in 2019, Bauer said he discovered his knack for creating great-tasting coffee and decided to begin branding his product.

Currently, he is manufacturing his cold brew out of the Calverton incubator with Stony Brook but also roasts the coffee beans himself.

“Everything is done by me, it’s a one-man band,” said Bauer. “I source the coffee from different countries and roast it out in Brooklyn at a shared roasting facility. My office is out of Huntington, but I’m really all over the place.”

When producing the cold brew, Bauer has to let the coffee soak for at least 24 hours before the product is complete. Then, he hand-bottles and hand-labels each case. It can take up to two days to make five cases, which is 125 bottles.

Each cold brew is sourced from different areas to appeal to different taste buds. Bauer’s Brew single-origin series comes from Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Burundi.

“The way I brew the cold brew is that I make it taste great without anything being in it,” said Bauer. “The single-origin series is really meant to be drunk as black so you can really taste how that country’s coffee was grown and what the difference is.”

Although he may introduce cold brews with added sugar in the near future, Bauer only sells cold brews that do not contain additives.

Bauer’s Brew also offers delivery to the local area, where Bauer will personally deliver any cold brew or coffee grounds customers have ordered.

“It’s a long process but I enjoy doing it and it’s a lot of fun, so I really don’t mind,” said Bauer.

Bauer’s Brew also offers limited releases of coffee grounds. His most recent blend is the “Pawsome Blend”. With a purchase of this limited release, proceeds from the sale are donated to Pioneers for Animal Welfare Society, Inc.  to benefit animals in need.

“Dogs are a second part of my life and I always wanted to do a charity blend,” said Bauer. “I love my dog and taking care of him so I’d love to help as many dogs as I can. I am going to try to make this a series where I work with different animal organizations.”

These coffee blends are available locally in places such as the Huntington Summer Farmers Market, Herb’s Market, Carlsons Farm Stand, Leilu, Montauk Market, Taste NY, The Brittlery, The Dark Horse Tavern, and many more.
