Subzero wind chill weather is predicted from overnight Friday into Saturday morning, the National Weather Service said. Temperatures could sink to -10 into late Saturday morning.
In Huntington, Supervisor Edmund J. Smyth opened the Dix Hills Ice Rink through the weekend as a warming center for the forecasted temperature drop.
The center opened Friday and will remain open from 6 a.m. to midnight all weekend to Monday.

Gov. Kathy Hochul Friday directed state agencies to prepare for extreme cold temperatures and increasing winds across the state, with dropping temperatures and wind chill values to dangerous levels tonight through Saturday. Wind chill warnings are in effect from 7 p.m. Friday through 4 p.m. Saturday with wind chill values expected to drop as low as -20 degrees across Western New York and -40 degrees in the North Country and along Lake Ontario. Low temperatures will range from 10 to -20 degrees across the state. Emergency response officials are also monitoring a possible snowstorm that is forecast to begin Sunday evening and last into Monday, bringing heavy snow to several regions across the state and potential coastal flooding to parts of Long Island.
The snow and extreme cold was expected to heat western and northern New York the hardest.
