Huntington Restaurants Can Expand Dining Into Parking Spaces

Huntington restaurants will soon be able to expand outdoor dining services into parking spaces in front of their businesses.

The Town Board voted last week to approve the temporary option, proposed by Town Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci.

“As outdoor gathering limits expand more rapidly than indoor limits, we are providing flexibility for food establishments that are eligible to safely expand their outdoor dining footprint past the sidewalk into the street with our new parklet program,” Lupinacci said.

Restaurants would have to ensure that their expansion doesn’t prevent pedestrians walking two abreast from navigating the sidewalks.

The town application is free; restaurants that use metered parking spaces would have to pay $100 per month per space.

Applications may also be submitted to: Huntington Town Hall, Traffic Safety Division (Room 109), 100 Main Street, Huntington, NY 11743, phone (631) 351-3053, fax (631) 351-3066.

Forms required:

Restaurants located on state roads, such as Main Street or New York Avenue, would have to apply to the state for a permit.
