Huntington Safe Boating Week to Launch May 21

Huntington Safe Boating Week is scheduled for the week of May 21-27, with classes for boating certification, how to handle an emergency and proper use of a GPS device.

All programs in the Boat Smart Boat Safe week are free.

On May 21, the Town of Huntington will provide a New York State boating safety certification course, to residents 10 years old or up. Successful completion of the 8-hour course leads to a certificate a state boating safety credential issued by the state parks system.

On Wednesday, “Suddenly in Command” will be offered at the Harbor Boating Club, designed for those who are not boaters but might find themselves having to act in an emergency.

Other programs will teach people how to get the most out of their GPS, have their boats checked for saftey, and meet some of the leaders of the local boating community.
