Huntington Schools to Go Remote Next Week

The Huntington school district will go fully remote next week, Superintendent James W. Polansky said Wednesday.

He cited recent positive Covid-19 test results in multiple schools, as well as the skyrocketing infection rate of 12.8 percent reported Wednesday by Suffolk County.

“While there has been no further discussion at the State level regarding additional micro-cluster zone designations, the current metrics in the region
suggest that the most prudent action on our part is to continue remote learning across the district through at least next week (January 4-8, 2021),” Polansky said in a letter to the school community.

He also noted that the New York State Department of Health has adopted the CDC recommendation to reduce quarantine times from 14 to 10 days, assuming an individual is symptom-free for 24 hours, and said the district would use the same timeframe once the Suffolk Department of Health adopts it.
