Huntington Station Man Accused of DWI, Striking Police Car

A Huntington Station man was charged Sunday morning with driving while intoxicated after his car struck a police officer’s vehicle  on the Long Island Expressway in Hauppauge.

Suffolk police said Tracy Smith was westbound on the LIE near exit 55 when his 2021 Volkswagen struck a Highway Patrol Bureau vehicle that was parked on the shoulder behind another vehicle. The crash occurred  at 4:43 a.m.

After striking the police car, Smith’s vehicle then struck a 2008 Ford vehicle in a traffic lane.  Neither Smith no the occupants of the Ford were injured.

The police sergeant was treated and released at Stony Brook University Hospital.

Smith was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and issued a summons for violation of the Move Over Law. He  will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.
