Huntington Station Man Seriously Injured in Crash

A Huntington Station man was seriously injured in a car crash Monday morning in Hauppauge.

Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives said Hugo A. Chavez was driving a 2007 Honda sedan west on the Long Island Expressway when he lost control of the vehicle between exits 55 and 56 at approximately 12:35 a.m. The Honda rolled over repeatedly, ejecting Chavez into right lane of the roadway, then crashed into the woods. Two bystanders pulled Chavez off the roadway.

Melqui Misael Chevez Rivas, the front passenger in the Honda, remained in the vehicle until it came to rest.

Chavez, 30, of Huntington Station, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Chevez Rivas, 22, of Huntington Station, was transported by Hauppauge Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
