Huntington voters chose former Vice President Joe Biden over President Donald Trump by 11,000 votes, according to final numbers released this week. The final count put the race at 63,448 votes for Biden to 52,399 for Trump.
Suffolk County gave Trump the edge, however, by 232 votes, or 381,253 to 381,021 votes.
Decisions on two county propositions were split. The first, to double the length of the term served by Suffolk County legislators, was soundly defeated, 469,552 to 200,431. The second, involving transferring sewer stabilization reserve funds to a taxpayer trust fund, was passed 348,357 to 301,407.
Incumbent Democrats held on to seats in several races.
In the Third Congressional District, US Rep. Tom Suozzi won 176,688 to Republican challenger George Santos’ 141,612.
State Sen. Jim Gaughran just barely beat challenger Ed Smyth in the Suffolk County portion, with just a four-vote margin, 40,660 to Smyth’s 40,656, while Green Party candidate Barbara Wagner claimed 1,037 votes. But in Nassau, Gaughran had 43,820 votes to Smyth’s 40,607, and Wagner got 794.
Republican Mario Mattera defeated Democrat Mike Siderakis to fill the 2nd State Senate District seat vacated by Republican John Flanagan, 93,224 to 70,833.
In the State Assembly 10th District, Steve Stern was re-elected with 37,061 votes to Jamie Silvestri’s 28,620. Republican Keith Brown defeated Michael Marcantonio to fill the vacant State Assembly 12th District seat, 35,190 votes to 33,027.
