The Huntington Zoning Board of Appeals has canceled its meeting that was scheduled for Thursday (July 15) but added another hearing for August.
The town said that legal notices that had already been published had stated that the July meeting would be virtual, but when the state suddenly lifted its state of emergency, meaning the board would meet in person, the legal notice was then invalid.
ZBA Chairman John Posillico wrote, “As a result of State of Emergency having been rescinded by the State of New York, the Zoning Board is no longer able to conduct the virtual hearings that had been scheduled for the month of July. This occurred without advance notice to any Town.
“The Zoning board has added a hearing date of August 10th to our hearing calendar in an effort to reschedule the July hearings with the least disruption to applicants. The mailings and required publication will be handled by the Town at no cost to the applicants.”
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced the end of the Covid-19 state of emergency on June 23, effective the next day.
