Huntington’s New Town Board to Convene

Two new councilmen and a new supervisor will take their places on the dais Tuesday afternoon when the Huntington Town Board convenes in the first public meeting of the new year.

Supervisor Ed Smyth, most recently a town councilman, and former South Huntington School Superintendent Dr. Dave Bennardo and businessman Sal Ferro will take their seats alongside Councilwoman Joan Cergol, the lone Democrat, and Councilman Gene Cook, an independent.

High on the agenda are the appointments of a director of general services, succeeding Andre Sorrentino, who was elected highway superintendent in November, and a town attorney and deputy attorney.

The board is also expected to name members to the Zoning and Planning boards, as well as appoint chairs and vice chairs of the two boards.

The meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. and is open to the public in town hall. Covid-19 protocols, including masks and temperature checks at the door, are in place.

See the Town of Huntington website for details on how to watch on TV or online.
