Incoming Whitman Freshman Wins Covid-19 Vaccine Scholarship

She hasn’t even  gone to her first class at Walt Whitman High School but incoming freshman Isabella Weber has already won a scholarship.

Weber has been announced as one of the ten winners in this week’s drawing of Gov.  Andrew M.Cuomo’s “Get a Shot to Make Your Future” program designed to encourage young people to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

Cuomo announced the program last month to motivate 12- to-17-year olds and get the chance to win one of 50, four-year full-ride scholarships. Winners will receive a full scholarship to any SUNY or CUNY school, including tuition, room and board, and expenses. Ten winners are chosen at random each week to win the scholarships.

“I wasn’t expecting to win because it was such a big number of people who entered. This is life-changing, so I was really happy to hear that I was selected,” Isabella said.

She is interested in pursuing a career in law when it comes time to start applying to colleges.

“Thank you to Governor Cuomo for the opportunity and creating this scholarship,” Isabella’s mother, Christina, said. “This truly is life-changing. We are blown away and very grateful.”
