Kids Corner: Yoga, Family Nights and Creative Workshops

School’s out and the kids are home. Need some inspiration on what to do? Check out our latest listings of events that are coming up through the beginning of August, from learning to focus on breathing techniques and yoga poses at The Village Artist Fine Arts Center in Huntington, to enjoying live music with the whole family outdoors in Northport Village plus scavenger hunts and contests.

What: Kids Yoga & Mindfulness Jar Craft
Where: The Village Artist Fine Arts Center, Huntington
When: Sunday, July 28th, 12-1pm
Cost: $20/child (ages 6 and up)
About: Class focuses on breathing techniques, yoga poses and mindfulness activities centered on a theme. Students will build strength, flexibility, and coordination while acquiring relaxation tools in a non-competitive and nurturing space. This month’s craft will be a mindfulness jar that children can take with them and use at home to quiet their mind.

What: Summer Drop-In Art for Ages 5 to 10
Where: The Heckscher Museum of Art
When: Wednesday, July 31st, 10:30-11:30am
Cost: $5 per child.One accompanying adult free. Parents/caregivers are welcome, but not required to stay.
About: For children ages 5 – 10. Young artists are invited to create wonderful works of art under the guidance of professional museum educators this July & August. Each day, children will either paint at an inspiring location in Heckscher Park (weather permitting) or draw, collage, or sculpt in the Museum galleries. Each day will feature a new and exciting project.

Where: Home Depot, Huntington
When: Saturday, August 3rd, 9am-12pm
Cost: Free
About: Take school work to another galaxy in a hands-on workshop where you and your child can build a rocket pencil box. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
