Kmart closed its doors for good this weekend, creating the second empty space at the Big H center.
Patrons continued to show up throughout the day Sunday, either unaware that the store was closing, or hoping for one more last-minute sale. The parking lot was noticeably empty Sunday afternoon.
Unlike the closing of Outback Steakhouse, in August, Kmart’s shutdown was no surprise as its parent company has been shuttering hundreds of Kmarts and Sears stores across the country.
Though rumors have swirled about a replacement for Kmart, spokesmen would neither confirm no deny plans to move into the center. Multiple emails sent to employees of UrbanEdge Properties, which owns the center, have gone unanswered.
