Kmart Store’s Countdown to Closing

The Kmart store in Huntington is expected to close its doors by Jan. 27.

Countdown-style signs — “reading last 10 days” on Friday — are posted at the main entrance to the store at the Big H center.

Scores of kmart stores all over the country have closed or marked for shutdown after Sears Holdings, which also owns the kmart brand, filed for bankruptcy last fall. However,  some kmarts may have been rescued from closing by the last-minute purchase of the bankrupt company by Sears Holdings Corp Chairman Eddie Lampert, who bid roughly $5.2 billion to buy it out.

The center is owned by Urban Edge Properties.
