An East Northport man was arrested Saturday night and charged with violating Leandra’s Law, driving while intoxicated with a child in the car, Suffolk County police said.
Ross Nonnenmacher was driving a 2016 Nissan Rogue southbound on Tompkins Street with his 5-year-old son in the vehicle when he was stopped by Second Precinct Patrol officers about 6:43 p.m. Nonnenmacher was arrested and transported to the Second Precinct stationhouse. The child was released to a family member. The Nissan was impounded.
Police charged Nonnenmacher, 29, with Driving While Intoxicated (Prior Conviction – Felony), Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15-Years-Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law), Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st Degree, and Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a Required Interlock Device. Nonnenmacher will be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
