Let the 4th’s Festivities Begin

Firefighters from every department in Huntington, Coast Guard members, women dressed as suffragists, veterans, people commemorating the 50th anniversary of the the Moon landing, a duck and scores of people equipped and spoiling for a water fight walked, waddled  or watched the Eaton’s Neck Fourth of July parade on Thursday.

The interactive parade, featuring mostly people dressed as if for the beach or a costume party, hosing or spraying–and getting the same in return–from almost anyone riding a vehicle in the parade.

Following the  parade, the Eaton’s Neck Fire Department led a service to remember the meaning of the Fourth of July and to honor some of its members, including Roy Beach, a Navy D-Day veteran who turned 93 Thursday.

Several officials declared it the best Fourth of July in the country before everyone headed off to the firehouse for a picnic.
