Letter: End of a School Year Filled With Success, With More to Come

Dear Huntington Students, Staff and Community Members,

The end of June is well known for its extended daylight and warmer weather, as well as final classroom lessons, end-of-year exams and a farewell to a group of exceptional soon-to-be graduates.

As the 2018-2019 school year comes to a close, please allow me to express my heartfelt thanks to each of you for the support you’ve, once again, provided for our students and schools.

As is the case every year, we can cite an abundance of student and staff accomplishments in the classroom, on the field, in the arts, and in every other extracurricular pursuit. We can also take great pride in the noble service initiatives that have taken place across the district, all of which have
helped reinforce the importance of kindness, acceptance, selflessness and community.

I’d like to convey my sincerest appreciation to our staff for the energy, dedication, care and collaborative spirit they bring to their work daily. Every role played and job performed is a factor contributing toward student growth and progress. Additionally, I extend my deepest gratitude to those retiring after serving our district’s children and families in numerous regards and for many
years.

I’d also like to acknowledge the ongoing efforts of district parents and family members, as well as efforts put forth by the various community support organizations whose contributions go far from unnoticed. The partnerships among school, home and community continue to make a significantly
positive difference for all.

Author Roy T. Bennett expressed it well … “It’s only after you’ve stepped outside your comfort zone that you begin to change, grow, and transform.” Students and staff members alike have become more accustomed to taking such steps over the course of the year. With change as a constant, however, there is always more work to be done. We will surely continue to look beyond our comfort zones as we foster our children’s and our own educational growth and transformation in the years ahead.

Changes for 2019-2020 will begin almost immediately upon the end of the current school year, as the summer will feature an abundance of capital improvements across the district. July and August will also be saturated with curriculum writing and resource development at nearly all grade levels
and across the subject areas. Perhaps the most substantial transformation will be experienced by our Huntington High School Class of 2019, as its members move onto college, the military, the workforce and other endeavors. Please join me in congratulating and sharing well wishes with an outstanding group. We are beyond proud of their growth and achievement, as well as the legacy they will leave!

I wish you a summer filled with rest, relaxation and family enjoyment. Please continue to visit our website and stay tuned to our social media platforms throughout the next two months, as we will continue to share, with great pride, news on district students, staff and upcoming events.

I look forward to welcoming you back in September!
