LI Cares Offers Help to Federal Government Workers in Shutdown

Long Island Cares, Inc. is offering assistance to government employees and their families hit financially by federal government shutdown.

As a temporary measure to secure supplemental food, personal care products, household supplies, pet food and other assistance, families are welcomed at all three Long Island Cares’  locations in Freeport, Lindenhurst and Huntington Station, which all offer food pantries.

Federal employees are invited to set up individual appointments to receive assistance until they are able to return to work and receive paychecks.

“For people living from paycheck-to paycheck affording basic necessities can prove challenging but, when you’re working without being compensated, or you’ve been furloughed as a result of a government shutdown the challenges to put food on your table or take care of your personal needs including your family pet can turn into a crisis,” said Paule Pachter, chief executive officer of Long Island Cares.

Long Island Cares’ satellite locations are open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  and Tuesday and Friday from 9-5 pm.  Tuesdays are exclusively for serving members of the armed services and their families, including members of the U.S. Coast Guard.
