Lidl will open its renovated Huntington Station store on Dec. 18, the company announced Monday morning.
The ribbon-cutting and grand opening will be at 7:40 a.m., and will kick off a weekend of get-them-while-you-can special offers, giveaways, and prizes for shoppers.
Among the highlights of the opening:
- The first 200 customers will be presented with a special gift card ranging from $5 to $250 each.
- Raffle giveaway for people who sign up for our newsletter, with 3 people chosen at random to receive a $500 Lidl gift card.
- Shoppers can get free samples of an array of Lidl’s products and a complimentary Lidl reusable bag while supplies last.
- Games, activities, prizes, special deals and giveaways throughout grand opening weekend.
The store, Lidl’s third on Long Island, will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday-Sunday.
“I was born and raised on Long Island and I’m confident as soon as people try Lidl, they’ll be back for more,” said Huntington store manager Francisco Cerna. “I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to open Lidl’s third store on Long Island and introduce all our customers in the Huntington community to Lidl’s high quality and incredibly low prices.”
Long Island officials welcomed the opening.
“Lidl’s entry into the Long Island market will grant customers a unique and modern approach to grocery,” said Huntington Supervisor Chad Lupinacci. “Their award winning prices and food are constantly rated at the top. Most recently, Lidl partnered with the John Theissen Children’s Foundation to raise money for sick and underprivileged children. It is exciting to welcome a company who offers not only great products and service, but a strong allegiance to community values.”
“Nutritious fresh vegetables and fruit are essential to a healthy life,” said Dr. William Spencer, a member of the Suffolk County legislature. “The new Lidl grocery opening in Huntington Station will provide affordable groceries that include the freshest fruit, vegetables, seafood and meat, as well as an extensive organic selection. That’s a good thing! Welcome to our community!”

Lidl was recently ranked the No.3 food store in the country.
The store, at 711 East Jericho Turnpike, was previously a Best Market, a chain acquired by Lidl last year. Before it was bought by Best Market, the site was a Waldbaum’s for many years. Lidl is opening stores in Center Moriches and West Babylon on Wednesday.
Lidl operates throughout nearly every country in Europe. In the U.S., Lidl has stores along the East Coast, from Georgia to New York. It has plans to expand further in the New York area, beyond the 24 Long Island Best Market stores. Four of the Best Market stores, including the one in Huntington Station, are undergoing renovations to convert to a Lidl design.
Roman Heini, chairman of Lidl US, said the company sees an opportunity to expand in the busy American market. “We have fresh products at great prices,” he said. And he expects other chains to follow Lidl. In addition to lowering their prices to compete, Heini said, “They are renovating” and trying to match Lidl’s practices. The company also plans to continue to foster more community events.
Lidl sponsored an Oktoberfest for charity at Walt Whitman Shops in September.
