Linda Shoemaker, Retired Music Teacher, Dies

Linda L. Shoemaker, who taught music and led the Huntington High School band for several years, died Aug. 10. She was 76.

Born and reared in California, she attended college in Nevada and Ohio. In 1967, she accepted a teaching job in Huntington, teaching first at Flower Hill and Woodbury Avenue School.  She became band director at Finley Junior High and then moved to Huntington High School in 1982 before retiring in 1997. 

 She was also an avid photographer and traveler and visited all over the world. She had a particular love of Ireland, and adored Kenya where she went three times due to her love of nature and all animals.  At home she always had a cat or two, and raised several rough collies, her favorite breed. 

   Linda is survived by her sister, Doris J. Mady and brother-in-law Mike Mady; nieces Cyndee J. Mady and Lisa L. Buchanan; grand niece Taylor L. Buchanan, grand nephews Jeremy M. DeGonia and Dallas R.M. Buchanan, and great-grand niece Adriana DeGonia, all residing in Oregon.  She is predeceased by her parents Oliver H.P. Shoemaker and Gladys L. Shoemaker, and sister Norman Jean Shoemaker.

A funeral is scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m., M. A. Connell Funeral Home Inc.,  934 New York Avenue, Huntington Station.
