McDaniel College student LJ Kindall of Huntington will perform in the annual College Choir Concert on Sunday, Dec. 2 at McDaniel College, Westminster, Md. The performance, titled “Songs of Peace,” is free and open to the public.
The choir is under the direction of Margaret Boudreaux, director of choral activities at McDaniel, with pianist and McDaniel music faculty member David Kreider serving as accompanist. In addition to music from diverse locales and historical eras, the concert features several familiar carols during which audience participation is encouraged. The Madrigal Singers, McDaniel’s premier a cappella vocal ensemble, also perform on several selections.
The concert commemorates the 100th anniversary of the armistice ending World War I with pieces that recognize the sacrifice of those who served in that war and the desire for peace following the war. These pieces include a setting of the poem “In Flanders Fields,” “The Battle” by Garth Baxter that is based on poetry by Thomas Hardy, a setting of “Bring Him Home” from “Les Miserables,” and a setting of the Hebrew prayer “Ose Shalom.”
Other highlights of the concert include, “Villagers All” by Dwight Bigler, “The Seal Lullabye” by Eric Whitacre, Toto’s “Africa” by David Paich and Jeff Porcaro, “Music Down in My Soul” a traditional African-American spiritual arranged by Moses Hogan, “Hine ma Tov” (Psalm 133) by Allan E. Naplan, and “El Cielo Canta Alegria” by Pablo Sosa.
