Local Business People to Box in Fight for Charity

Local business people will square off Monday night in the 15th annual Long Island Fight for Charity.

More than 1,200 fans are expected.

Over 30 local restaurants are providing food and beverages for the event.

Boxers have been raising thousands of dollars. Both men and women are signed up to box and come from a range of professions, from undertaking, to real estate to construction;  Mikey (Boom Bots) Zaharios,  a teacher in the South Huntington school district, is among those signed up to fight.

“A friend told me about Fight for Charity,” he said. “After learning its mission, I volunteered to be a Charity Boxer in memorial for Vincent Alterbrando, Walt Whitman High School teacher and wresting coach. It’s a great opportunity to give back to the community, plus I will get to better myself both mentally and physically,” Michael said.

The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Long Island Hilton in Melville.
