Lupinacci Outlines Proposed 2022 Town Budget

The Town of Huntington plans to have a public hearing on the 2022 preliminary operating budget on or before Nov. 4.

The $212-million budget must be adopted by Nov. 20.

“The challenge in developing Huntington’s 2021 Budget was to maintain services at a time when revenues are stagnant and fixed costs, health care commodity costs and contractual costs are increasing. The Town’s economic health depends in part on municipal government providing services that create an environment that attracts and keeps businesses prospering and residents who want to continue to make Huntington their home,” the budget report says.

Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci said  “Particular focus was given to employee salaries, overtime and benefits.  In addition, fuel, energy and other utility costs, contractual expenses and debt service payments were analyzed.  I have incorporated realistic revenue budgeting, and have not relied upon one shot revenues as a means of balancing the 2022 tentative budget.  We continue to provide current levels of service, despite a contractual collective bargaining salary increase for all union employees.”

Among the steps the town cited to control costs were:

  • Replacing retiring town workers with those earning lower salaries
  • Requiring employees to contribute to health insurance benefits
  • Increasing the tax levy by 1.93 percent while not piercing the state tax cap.

The capital budget is set at  $22.37 million.
