Man Accused of Abandoning Puppy

A Mineola man was arrested Monday night and accused of abandoning a puppy he was caring for.

Suffolk County police said that on March 15, the dog was abandoned in a Dumpster at Captree State Park. A woman found the puppy and took him to Grady Animal Hospital in Sayville and called 911 to report the incident. After an investigation, police identified Thami Stafyleras, 44, as the man who was taking care of the dog for a Huntington Station resident, who was away.

Stafyleras was charged with abandonment of an animal. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.

The puppy, a 17-week-old Pomsky named Louie, is in good health and will be returned to his owner.
