Man Accused of Following Girl, 17, Into Her Home

A Deer Park man was arrested Thursday and accused of following a girl into her Dix Hills home in January.

Suffolk County police arrested Ismail Sarimehmet and charged him with second-degree criminal trespass and second-degree harassment.

Police said that about 4:15 p.m. Jan. 29, Sarimehmet followed a 17-year-old girl who was walking home. The man pulled up in front of her home, walked up the driveway and entered her attached garage and started speaking to her. The girl called for her parents and immediately went inside the house. When the man heard the parents were home, he walked back to his truck and left. The girl was not harmed.

Second Precinct Crime Section officers arrested him about noon Thursday at his home.

Investigators believe that other girls were targeted and are asking anyone with more information to contact the Second Precinct Crime Section at 631-854-8228 from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m.

“Excellent Police work by the 2nd Precinct Crime Section,” Inspector Kevin Williams tweeted.

Sarimehmet  is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.
