Man Accused of Stealing Car at Gunpoint Outside Restaurant

A Shirley man was arrested early Wednesday morning after he stole a car at gunpoint in Melville and fled, Suffolk County police said.

About 12″45 am, an armed man approached two people  in the parking lot of Cirella’s Restaurant, 14 Broadhollow Road, police said, and fled with their vehicle.

Fifth Precinct officers saw the vehicle, a 2005 BMW X3, on Long Island Avenue in Medford and attempted to pull it over but the driver failed to stop. Officers deployed stop sticks on Mill Road in Medford and the driver then fled on foot. Multiple officers pursued the man on foot and he was taken into custody at 1:32 a.m.

Jahmohri Mitchell, 21 was charged with robbery 1st degree, robbery 2nd degree, criminal use of a firearm 1st degree, criminal possession of a weapon 2nd degree, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle 3rd degree and resisting arrest.

Mitchell is being held at the Second Precinct stationhouse and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday.
