Man Arrested in Pedestrian Death in Melville

A pedestrian was killed Friday night while attempting to cross Broadhollow Road in Melville.

Suffolk County Police  arrested a Coram man for DWI early Saturday morning in the fatal crash.

Charged was Shane Decamp, who was operating a southbound 2016 Mazda CX-5 in front of 400 Broadhollow Road at approximately 9:35 p.m., when his vehicle struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Decamp, 48, was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He is being held at the Second Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
