Man Charged in Fatal Dix Hills Hit-and-Run

A man was arrested Sunday morning and charged with leaving the scene after a pedestrian was killed in Dix Hills, police said.

Arrested was Romero Crossman, 22, of Dix Hills.

Police said Crossman was driving a 2009 BMW 528i north on Straight Path/Seaman Neck Road when the vehicle struck Maged Ayoub at the intersection of Clarendon Street. Ayoub, 51, of Dix Hills, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead. Crossman then fled the scene, police said. The accident occurred about 10:55 a.m. Police officers located and arrested Crossman near his residence, at 26 Yorktown Road, Dix Hills, at 12:28 a.m. The BMW was impounded.

 Crossman was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and issued a summons for driving without a license. He was held overnight at the Second Precinct for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
