Man Critically Injured Crossing New York Avenue

2nd update: A pedestrian crossing New York Avenue was hit by a car just north of West 11th Street Saturday night,  Suffolk County police and the Huntington Manor Fire Department said.

Police said he was hit by a 1999 Honda CRV traveling south on New York Avenue at approximately 9 p.m.

The man, whose identity is withheld pending notification of family, was transported via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center with critical injuries. Huntington Manor firefighters assisted transporting him to the Medevac location at Walt Whitman Shops.

The driver of the Honda, Jose Rodriguez, 52, of Brooklyn, New York, was not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.

No further information was immediately available.
