Man Critically Injured in Wyandanch Car Accident Dies

A pedestrian struck by a car in Wyandanch Wednesday died Saturday of his injuries, and a Dix Hills man has been charged in the accident.

Suffolk County police gave this account:

At approximately 2 p.m., Daniyal Syed was driving south on Straight Path when his Toyota RAV4 stuck  Jonathan Yanes as he attempted to cross the street from the west side of the road to the east side. Yanes was taken by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in Islip where he was listed in critical condition.

Syed, 24, of Westminster Avenue, Dix Hills, was initially charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and four counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 7th Degree. Syed’s vehicle was impounded for a safety check.  Syed’s next appearance is April 26 in room D55 at the Suffolk First District Court.
