Man Killed in Crash on LIE in Melville

UPDATED: A man was killed in a crash Monday night in Melville, Suffolk County police said.

He was eastbound on the Long Island Expressway between Exits 48 and 49, about 11:12 p.m. when his vehicle, a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country, left the roadway and hit a pole, police said.

The man, identified as Chester Szarejko, 93, of Queens, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
