Updating man’s name, age.

A Melville man was rescued from his burning car after it crashed on Walt Whitman Road Saturday night, Suffolk County police said.

Philip Levy was driving a 2010 Hyundai north on Walt Whitman Road when he veered into the guardrail about 6:45 p.m. near Sprucetree Lane. Police Officers Joelvy Delacruz and Thomas Phelan arrived on scene within minutes and found the vehicle on fire and several Good Samaritans attempting to help Levy, who was unconscious in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, police said.

Delacruz and Phelan, with the help of the Good Samaritans,  safely removed Levy from the car. Levy, 85, was taken via ambulance to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported from the scene.

The Huntington Manor Fire Department reported that its crews from Engine 17 and Engine 3 made a quick knockdown on the fire.
