Man Working in Dix Hills Seriously Injured by Stump Grinder

A man working in Dix Hills was seriously injured Friday afternoon while using a stump grinder, Suffolk County police said.

Rubiel Cordoso Chavez was working for Traditional Tree Service of Smithtown at a home at 122 Ryder Ave., when he slipped, lost his footing and his leg became entangled in a stump grinder. The accident occurred at approximately 12:55 p.m.

Dix Hills Fire Department and SCPD Emergency Services were able to extricate Chavez.

Chavez, 33, of Huntington Station, was take by Suffolk County police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified and Suffolk County Second Precinct detectives are investigating.
