Melanie D’Arrigo Challenges Suozzi in 3rd Congressional District

Melanie D’Arrigo, a Port Washington advocate for healthcare, is challenging US Rep. Tom Suozzi in the June Democratic primary in the 3rd Congressional District.

She identifies her top issues as:

Medicare for all. “I worked as a Long Island health professional, working with children and with organizations on improving health outcomes. I know it is a right. We are the only developed country  that has this issue. Supplying health care as a human right would go so far.”

Environment. “I’m a big supporter of the Green New Deal. I’m adamant about getting to Washington and passing legislation that would move us closer to solutions. We’re already see storm surges resulting in property damage and salt water intrusion into our aquifer.”

Gun safety. “I participate in a lot of actions, and advocate for stronger gun laws. We have them here in New York State but we need them on the federal level.”

She said she has always volunteered with Planned Parenthood. “The government is preying on women, and discriminating against its most vulnerable people,” she said.

.She wants to fight to repeal the Hyde Amendment, which bars the use of federal funds to pay for abortion except to save the life of the woman, or if the pregnancy arises from incest or rape.

And she wants to get corporate money out of politics. “I’m not taking corporate PAC money,” she said. “We need representatives fighting for the people.”
