Melville Man’s Trash Ends Up Dumped in Connecticut

A Melville man wound up having a role in a garbage caper in Connecticut.

Police in Hartford said that trash belonging to Ayonkunle Kafi of Melville, who had paid a Connecticut man to dispose of it, ended up tossed onto a Hartford street. Police said Leon Peterson, 55,of Hartford, was paid to properly dispose of trash by another Hartford resident, but instead, dumped that trash and that belonging to Kafi at a street intersection.

Kafi told police he had paid Peterson to dispose of his trash legally. Police said Peterson acknowledged being paid to remove Kai’s trash and that he had done so properly.

Police issued Peterson a misdemeanor summons charging him with illegal dumping on city property.

The Hartford Department of Public Works posted a photo and celebrated the arrest on Facebook.
