Merger Brings Together Three Professionals

Earlier last month, Jon Ten Haagen, founder and principal of Ten Haagen Financial Group, began the process of bringing in Andrew Hollingsworth and Rick Betancourt, both CFPs and CPA enrolled agents to merge with his company.

Ten Haagen looked into succession about 10 years ago, but held off  until the time was right.

While Ten Haagen has no interest in retiring in the near future, he said, “I have brought two young bright men to join my team so that my clients and potential future clients can become comfortable with their knowledge and expertise for the day I may no longer be here.”

With nearly 40 years of experience in the field, Ten Haagen stressed his career passion and the importance to assist people in need of someone who is both knowledgeable and trustworthy to help plan and invest in their future.

It all started at Adelphi University, where Ten Haagen studied financial planning and received his CFP and Insurance licenses. To this day, his learning proceeds as he continues to take numerous hours of continued education each year in order to stay current in the industry.

Ten Haagen recalled his early years  at Paine Webber Jackson Curtis, where he started off vigorously cold calling potential clients. Ten Haagen became creative in his approach and was honored with the designation of Retirement Planning Consultant among other things. From then on he learned the value of listening to his future client’s needs and gaining their trust.

Going forward, the addition of Hollingsworth and Betancourt expands THFG to a full-service firm that covers all aspects of financial planning from investment advice and insurance needs to estate and retirement planning.

Hollingsworth started his career off in Maryland working in stocks. After making his way to New York, he began handling taxes part time in 2005, leading to full time financial planning. Now with over 12 years of experience, Hollingsworth said, he is able to “leverage his expertise in partnering with his own firm (Clark Hollingsworth & Betancourt) to help each other (THFG) better grow.”

Betancourt started at Clark Hollingsworth & Betancourt in 2014 as a CFP and is currently completing his masters degree in Finance from John Hopkins University. He brings with him expertise in custom crafting and managing financial portfolios. Betancourt said, his and Hollingsworth’s “tax element layered with Jon’s excellence – combined will help families in all aspects of planning.”

Both Hollingsworth and Betancourt are enrolled agents qualified to work in all states.

Ten Haagen Financial Group is located at 191 New York Ave., Huntington.
