Mobile Shower Unit Comes to Huntington Station

St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church is hosting a mobile shower unit available once a week to those who need to clean up.

The Huntington Public Library, St. Hugh of Lincoln Outreach and Hands Across Long Island sponsor the unit, which is avaliable Thursdays from 10 am to 2 pm at St. Hugh’s parking lot.

“The goal is for the homeless to remain healthy, to be clean and healthy,” Laura McKinley from the Huntington Public Library said. “The biggest thing is that people get as comfortable as they can.” The library is also taking donations for undergarments and food to distribute to those using the shower.

“We are happy to partner with St. Hugh of Lincoln and Hands Across Long Island to bring this much needed shower service to our community. There are many people living right beside us who do not have access to the basic day to day hygiene necessities that we all take for granted. We appreciate the efforts of all those involved to help make this happen,“ said Joanne Adam, director of the Huntington Public Library.
