The Modell’s Sporting Goods chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Wednesday and plans to close all of its remaining stores.
Among the more than 100 stores still open is one in East Northport. The chain has been closing stores for months as it struggled to stay afloat. It plans to start liquidation sales Friday.
How many jobs will be lost, or how long it will take for stores to close is unknown.
Modell’s was founded in 1889 in New York City and grew to a chain with 152 stores in several states.
