Mother of Parkland Victim Invited to Cuomo’s State of the State Address

Linda Beigel Schulman, mother of Scott Beigel who was killed in the Parkland school massacre last year, will be on hand Tuesday for Gov. Cuomo’s State of the State Address.

The Dix Hills resident will be heading to Albany Tuesday morning, fresh off her return from Florida.

“This is the most amazing honor, a  privilege,” Beigel said of the invitation to attend the speech. “I think the world of Gov. Cuomo as a person and he’s someone who when he says he’s going to get it done, he makes sure to get it done.”

Since her son’s death on Feb.14 last year, she has become a gun-control activist. Last week, Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul and Schulman spoke at a rally at Half Hollow Hills East High School to support Cuomo’s proposal to toughen rules on gun control.

“He’s been such a supporter; he’s a humanitarian supporter,” she said. “This is commonsense, the governor is doing something out of common sense.
“He is going to make New York the safest state,” she said. “New York will take the lead.”
Scott Beigel was one of 17 people murdered by a 19-year-old with a semi-automatic rifle at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. Beigel, who was 35, was a geography teacher and cross country coach, who was credited with saving several students before he was slain.
