Movie Series Expands to Mall, Includes Food Collection

Residents headed to Walt Whitman Shops Monday night for the opening of the Huntington movie series are reminded to bring nonperishable foods for donation to local food banks.

As the Covid-19 epidemic continues, the need for food has continued to grow because so many people are out of work.

Family Service League vice president Margaret Boyd said her agency will organize contributions for distribution to food banks and pantries which will then get them to those in need.

At a press conference Monday morning, Councilman Mark Cuthbertson said, “The really exciting news is that this allows the town to nearly double the number of people who can come to movies” and noted the restaurants by the mall are open and available to patrons. Mall owner Simon Properties “couldn’t have been more accommodating,” he said. “This is such a homerun for us.”

Four of the six movies in the series will be at the mall, with “Frozen 2” kicking off the series.

Advance registration is required for all movies but Monday’s show is full.
