The Covid-19 infection rate has hit its lowest figure since the epidemic began, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said Friday.
At .65 percent, the rate has remained below 1 percent every day for the last three weeks, Cuomo said. Of the 97,826 test results reported to New York State Thursday, 636 were positive. There were three deaths statewide.
The numbers are a far cry from April 9, when the one-day death toll in the state hit 799, and an average of more than 10 people a day were dying in Huntington.
Huntington Station continues to have the highest infection rate in Huntington, with 43.81 cases per 1,000 population.
The governor also said that 8 million tests have been conducted in the state.
“Fighting COVID-19 requires enormous bravery and discipline from New Yorkers and I thank them for today’s new record-low infection rate. This is evidence that what each of us does to slow the spread—wearing masks, socially distancing and washing hands—makes a real difference,” Cuomo said.
