Northport Officer Honored For Saving Life

Northport Police Officer Gregory Cerar was presented with the American Heart Association’s Life Saver Award at the Crest Hollow County Club.

Cerar responded to a call of a male choking at a home in Northport Village last Nov. 14 and found the victim unconscious, not breathing and with a complete airway blockage.

He performed the Heimlich Maneuver and dislodged the food from the victim.

The award was presented to  Cerar by Northport resident Karen Acompora who has worked tirelessly with the American Heart Association to have Automated External Defibrillators made more accessible to the public after her son Louis suffered a heart attack and died while playing lacrosse in 2000.
