Northport Police Help Catch Man Wanted on Nassau Warrant

Northport Village police helped catch a man wanted on a Nassau County warrant Tuesday who ran from them after a traffic stop last week on Fort Salonga Road.

On July 3, Northport police said, an officer saw Jeffrey Edwards, 25 of  Amityville, driving a  2016 GMC box truck east on Fort Salonga Road from Reservoir Avenue while he was holding a mobile phone, failing to maintain his lane, and exceeding the speed limit.

After pulling the vehicle over at Vernon Valley Road, police determined that Edwards’ license was suspended 18 times,  He was also determined to have an active warrant in Nassau County. When the officer asked him to place his hands behind his back, he ran south on Vernon Valley Road, then cut through Dairy Barn, and then cut through McDonald’s parking lot when he jumped a fence onto Kathy Court. SCPD was requested to assist. A perimeter was established while K9-5 responded and attempted to track the suspect through the sump with negative results. Aviation requested to no avail.

A Northport Village warrant of arrest was obtained.

On Tuesday afternoon, Edwards was arrested at his job, LA Fitness Club on Jericho Turnpike In Huntington Station.  He was charged with:

  • Aggravated unlicensed operation
  • Resisting arrest
  • Speeding
  • Unsafe lane change
  • Use of a cell phone

He was processed and turned over to Nassau County PD on their warrant.
