Northport School Board Books 2 Emergency Meetings

The Northport school board has scheduled two emergency meetings for the coming week.

The first is scheduled Tuesday. The board notice states that it will convene a public hearing to  “act upon a resolution, upon majority vote, to immediately convene into Executive Session to discuss matters pertaining to the employment history of particular persons and matters pertaining to contract negotiations.”

The Tuesday meeting is set for 8:30 p.m. at William J. Brosnan School
Board Conference Room. Executive sessions are not open to the public.

The second emergency meeting is scheduled for Wednesday to discuss roof construction at Ocean Avenue Elementary School. The board said the plan involves B-wing construction and the relocation of some students and staff for the coming school year. The Wednesday meeting is set for 7 p.m. at Norwood Avenue School.

The two meetings come after the board voted last week to contract with The Parkside Group, a powerful New York City consulting group that touts its success in helping Democrats win the majority in the State Senate.

It also voted to establish a retainer between the board and the law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP to “take any all necessary and appropriate steps to further the Board’s interests, including, but not limited to, the filing of documents with, and/or appearance before, any agency or commission and/or the commencement of any action or proceeding before any agency or tribunal on behalf of the School District” in the LIPA tax case.
