Northport Village, Town Boost Help to Senior Citizens

The Town of Huntington and organizations in Northport  are taking steps to assist senior citizens, the group considered most vulnerable in the coronavirus epidemic.

Northport Village trustee Tom Kehoe said that the Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club are working with churches and QwikRide  to identify senior citizens who may not be able to go out without help. They are lining up volunteers to deliver medicines and groceries to those in need.

The town said that while the Senior Center remains closed, the home delivered meals program continues, with seniors able to line up in cars  at the center for service Monday-Friday (noon to 1:20 p.m. Those who want to sign up for the program can register by calling 631) 351-3253 to sign up over the phone; bring proof of residency and age on the day of pickup, along with the State-mandated $2 voluntary suggested payment per meal.
