Democratic State Assembly candidate Michael Marcantonio is vowing to continue to appeal a ruling that he is ineligible to run because he voted out of state while a student at Duke University Law School.
A state appeals court this week upheld an earlier ruling that those votes, cast in 2012 and 2014, meant he hadn’t lived in the state for the last five years. He is running against Republican State Assemblyman Andrew Raia.
SECOND CHANCE WITH SUOZZI
An aide removed from the campaign of Nassau County Executive Laura Curran last year because of offensive social media posts written when she was a teenager is working now for U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi.
Mariah Dignan is working as a scheduler for the Democratic politician, who is seeking re-election in the Congressional Third District. He is running against Republican Dan DeBono.
She lost the job with Curran after the posts became public.
Suozzi’s chief of staff wrote: “We condemn the reprehensible comments Mariah made as teenager on social media. She has apologized, learned a hard lesson and paid for her mistakes. She’s taken workplace sensitivity training and deserves a second chance.”
A 2013 tweet attributed to her read: “I was gonna say [expletive] but then a black kid walked by. So I am gonna say it now. [Expletive].”
A 2012 Instagram picture included a derogatory term for gays, saying they were “dancing like psychopaths.”
MARCELLINO ENDORSEMENTS
Sen. Carl Marcellino, Republican representing the 5th District, claimed the endorsement of theCivil Service Employees Association. He previously won the support of the New York League of Conservation Voters and the Police Benevolent Association of New York State.
He is running against Democrat James Gaughran in the Nov.6 election.
