Officials, Labor Urge More Aid for State

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and other leaders Wednesday urged the state’s congressional delegation to press for more funding in the next federal stimulus aid package to avoid huge cuts in government budgets.

Mayor Bill de Blasio, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and New York labor leaders signed a letter that funding in the next stimulus should be based the needs of each state, and saying New York needs at least $15 billion to avoid tax increases and layoffs of essential workers.

They said that the MTA needs at least $4.5 billion this year to avoid layoffs of thousands of workers and another fare increase, and that New York City needs at least $9 billion.
